Green Grow the Rushes O is a title used for 3 different folk tunes. One is a fiddle tune, one is a Scottish folk song, and one is an English folk song. The Scottish folk song uses words from a poem by Robert Burns. It is sometimes spelled Green Grow the Rashes O (a replaces u in rushes). The melody is from a very old Scottish folk tune. The fiddle tune version is faster and the first part of it sounds similar to the Scottish version. Both use an unusual chord progression (both probably predate modern ideas of harmony). The English version is totally different. It goes through a round of numbers, like a children's tune.
I learned the fiddle tune version about 30 years ago on the mandolin and wasn't aware of the other versions until much later on the internet. Here is the version I learned. It is played on a Paddy Richter harp. This harp is a Lee Oskar Ab. The traditional key for the fiddle tune version is G, but the Ab was sitting on my desk when I did this.
