The songs for July 2021 are The Storms are on the Ocean and Give Me the Roses. Last week I was playing some old Carter family songs and found several that sat well on the harmonica. My mother liked the Carter family so I was familiar with their music. After asking Sarge if he had any plans for this month he told me to go ahead and post a couple Carter family songs. I have tested these and they play easy on one standard diatonic harp with or without chords. They also sound nice on two harps for more chords.
The first song is The Storms are on the Ocean. It is a typical three chord old time country music song. Here is the Carter family's original recording:

The Foggy Mountain Boys played it a bit slower and it seems that most people play it even slower today. Here are the Foggy Mountain Boys:

Here is an even slower version. I like this one because it features my favorite singer, Alison Krauss. Alison is from Illinois, the same state I live in. When she was a teenager before hitting it big in Nashville she used to sing at our local festivals. Whenever she started singing all the talking and picking all around the festival would stop and everyone turned to the stage to see who had the angelic voice. It's neat to have known about a big name artist before they made it big. I have several of her albums.
