Hi all!
I'm Paul from Leeds, Yorkshire (God's own county!). Been dabbling in harmonica for years after being inspired by an old pro-musician friend who used to play on country walks. Sadly he's now at rest so no tutoring from him. Trouble is I never really enjoyed the blues, so tried some Irish tunes but they're not really part of my culture either. So I dabbled but didn't play much. About a year ago I picked it up again and discovered a few tunes I liked to play. Got frustrated with the diatonic missing notes so bought myself a chromatic and really enjoy playing mostly classical pieces and hymns on it. Then about a month ago I discovered "The Harmonica Barge" on YouTube and started to learn how to add rhythm into diatonic tunes, just like my old musician friend used to do. Since that was the sound I wanted all along I've been learning tongue-blocking, vamping, slapping, etc. ever since. From there YouTube recommended a video of Sarge's, which is how I found this forum!
So far I've only got the one tune I really like to play on the diatonic in the "traditional" style: "Nothing But The Blood". It only uses the I and V chords, ranges from 4 to 6 holes on the melody, every note can be played as an octave, and it has a strong 4/4 rhythm; it's perfect for messing around with! Here's the melody tab. I've not recorded my playing before, but I guess I could give it a go and try uploading it to the Gospel thread I spied on here.
