This traditional melody has been used for many songs over the years. It was first published in the 1830s but predates that. Also known as Rosin the Beau, an old drinking song about an old fellow who used to be popular with the ladies when he was young. Also known as Rosin the Bow, a fiddle reference. Also known as Acres of Clams or The Old Settlers Song if you live on the West Coast. There are other titles. I know it as Lincoln and Liberty. That was Lincoln's 1860 campaign song. Back then most major candidates had campaign songs. Just Google any of these titles to see many examples.
I was raised in Central Illinois and have visited many Lincoln historical sites both as a child and as an adult. I have read books on Lincoln. So I like this version. Several Youtubes can be found with the lyrics sung.
This uses the low A note that is missing on a Richter harp. It could be played on a Paddy Richter but I'm not sure how the chords would work. A chromatic would also work. I used tremolo harps with the Asian note system. First two times was a Seydel Skydiver in A, last two times a Skydiver in C. A Suzuki or Tombo would also work. I thought of suggesting it as a song of the month but that missing note could be a problem for Richter harp players.
