Hey folks!
My names Finn, harmonica is my first instrument and I've been chugging along for about 4 years now. My main musical interests are I guess what folks would call "old-timey" as in ragtime, prewar blues, and dixieland, folk and country, and all that sort of stuff. I am really excited to have found this forum, you folks seem incredibly kind and knowledgeable. That being said, I'm hoping any of y'all might know about the origins of "foxchase" type pieces, such as this song by DeFord Bailey. I understand the rhythm and the intention of the piece and I also understand that many early harmonica styles are adaptations of fiddle styles. Foxchase type songs are very similar to train chugs but have a different energy and intention, I don't imagine hunting parties actually playing harmonica while chasing foxes but who knows! Anyways, I'd appreciate it greatly if any of y'all would be able to fill me in about the historical significance and origins of the foxchase! Thank you all so much, I'm glad to be a part of this community and will post videos of my playing soon.
