Hello everyone, my name is Chuck and I live in Southern Indiana (USA). I am 65 and decided to try playing the harmonica about 2 years ago when I found a harmonica with a button on the side of it. I later found out this was called a Chromatic Harmonica. Needless to say it was junk but for $2.00 I thought I’d try it. I have zero music background or talent (but having zero knowledge about something has never stopped most of us – has it). So off to the Internet to find a good one. I ended up purchasing a Hohner CX12 key of C. I can’t read music so I rely on Tabs. I am a soft and apparently wet player and have the hardest time with the windsavers sticking after about 30 minutes. Earlier this year I purchased one of those DM48 digital chromatic harmonica (no warming up or sticky windsavers) it has quickly become my favorite. I love visiting this site and listening to everyone play – some of the songs I listen to over and over and wonder how in the heck do they do that! I love the Song of the month section.

Welcome Chuck! I'm glad you joined in. Don't be shy now. I'd like to hear that digital harmonica. Have you ever went up to the Bean Blossom Blues Festival up by Nashville, IN? Lots of harmonica players there, including me. I go there every year, lots of fun!!!

The older I get the more I know how little I knew when I knew it all.

I didn't start until I retired, & I'm progressing slowly, but it's fun just learning to play.
(The CX12 is a good chrom, it has lots of fans.)

My main instrument is chromatic, & at this time of year they need to be warmed up to body temperature to prevent the wind savers from sticking, it's your breath condensing against the cold of the instrument, (I use a heated pad).

(I know of a few people that like the DM48, there's a thread on another forum called Slidemeister.)

Sarge, I have never been to the Bean Blossom Festival but hoping to go next year. As far as hearing me play – that will probably never happen – for a couple reason. If I play my CX12, Hohner would ask me to stop and send the harmonica back to them (Torture is frowned upon). The same thing would happen if I played my DM48.
With the DM48 I use Mixcraft 8 Home Studio on my computer and it does allow me to record and save it as an .mp3 file. But I don’t think this site lets you attach an .mp3 file

Chuck, we all started from scratch. We all had the troubles you are experiencing. It only becomes better as you keep practicing. Posting your so called bad play gives you something to keep your interest and improve. Many people join a forum, write an introduction and we never see anymore from them. Chuck, don’t be one of them. Be a player.

Chuck, there are many ways to get your recording onto this site. You wrote that you watched some of the videos posted. You’ll have seen various blue spots to click on. Ask the player how he posted. I use youtube, play into the iPad then upload to YouTube and transfer the URL to the forum. Soundcloud is free for many hours, just upload your mp3 to it and enter the numbers on the forum. Someone, help chuck get his mp3 onto the forum.

Well I can’t believe I’m going to do this but Dezzy quilted me into this. I really enjoy listening to everyone play and I guess if everyone had the same attitude as me as to never wanting to post a video all we would be doing is reading a bunch of words instead of enjoying everyone’s music.
After numerous tries I have posted Pretty Paper in the Key of G in the Songs for December, hope this works.
