I think to those who say they need a Chromatic in the key of the song are looking for the easy way to play by not needing to use the slide.
It is possible to play tunes in any key but that requires knowing which notes to push the slide in to sound the sharp. So to play a tune of G the slide goes in on every F note (F#). Still using the C chromatic and playing a tune in E the slide goes in on every C,D,F,G note. So it’s possible to play all keys on a C chromatic but easier to use a chromatic in the key of the song. Now that needs a small fortune to buy a chromatic in all the keys. So better to learn how to transpose to a key using less button in movement.
